Complaint Against Kuenssberg: The BBC Respond (at last!)

See the source image

We have pursued the BBC for the best part of a year now in search of a response to Laura Kuenssberg’s coverage of Keir Starmer’s decision to deny the parliamentary whip to Jeremy Corbyn.

Kuenssberg’s report on the issue was arguably the climax (nadir?) of the media’s long campaign, in conjunction with centrist Labour MPs and more or less the entire British establishment, to discredit and smear Corbyn.

The report finalised a campaign to turn the world upside down. A respected, long-time anti-racist campaigner was “booted out” (LK’s impartial words!) of the party he’d led just months ago, by a man who’d served under him for years, and Kuenssberg presented this to the population as the natural course of events: “if (Keir Starmer) wanted to keep the promise he made solemnly to the Jewish community, did he really have any choice?”

First the BBC pretended they hadn’t received our complaint. Then they sent not one but TWO letters blaming a delay in responding on coronavirus. Then they sent a two line reply to our detailed, evidenced critique“We don’t accept that the line in question (“When the report came out, Mr Corbyn suggested it had all been exaggerated”) misrepresents Jeremy Corbyn and have nothing further to add on this point”

We escalated our complaint to the BBC’s Executive Complaints Unit and have now received an “executive” reply from Richard Hutt, Complaints Director. We will keep our counsel on most of its content for now. What we’d like to know is what you make of it!

Please let us know in the comments at the bottom of this article! The letter is reproduced in full, while our complaint to the ECU, which the letter purports to address, can be reread here

Well? What do YOU make of the BBC’s reply? Please let us know in the comments below!

  1. More establishment newspeak. Project Smear against Corbyn and the left in Britain continues apace. Can one really expect any other response from these people? They never change.

  4. Does the imminent departure of Ms Kuenssberg to Radio 4 actually tacitly acknowledge that the BBC appreciates her increasingly problematic presence – as well as what they view as her ability – rather than her own personal reaction to online abuse?

    1. Thanks for the comment Douglas! We also suspect that is the case – unfortunately, it’s way too little and far too late…

In addition, Ms Kuennsberg’s predecessors in the role were Andrew Marr and Nick Robinson. It seems this is a role in which the powers that be prefer their “impartiality” with a conservative twist. We’ve heard Jon Sopel mooted as next in line…

  6. The BBC is meant to inform and educate – entertain… without political bias . The BBC are the vendor and we pay for their goods.
Their goods are not fit for purpose . The BBC needs to compensate us for their flagrant bias . It is an insult to our intelligence for therm to reply in such a preposterous, grotesquely unfair and supercilious manner. The Orwellian BBC would have us believe 2 + 2 = 5 .

  7. In 35 years ongoing since the TORY ‘Reign of TERROR’ Grantham Hag Thatcher ‘booted’ the last balanced Beeb D.G. Alasdair Milne out of office in Jan ’87, for being ‘too balanced’.

The true tags for the cowardly Murdochizing, infantilizing, trivializing, DEMONizing BBC are, ‘BiasedBritCrap’ – ‘BIGBroCorp’ = BBCrap!!!

  8. Anyone who has studied propaganda techniques and behaviour management methods knows that it is subtle, seemingly throw away under the radar remarks which infiltrate into the listeners’/viewers’ psyche and the BBC’s coverage of politics has consistently used these devices to create a negative view of Corbyn. Richard Hutt pretends that by forensically looking at a series statements he can refute your accusations. He knows , however, that the BBC had decided beforehand the impression they wanted to create, namely Corbyn was denying there a was antisemitism and Starmer was fully justified in his action; only later, when forced, did he look carefully at the details in an attempt justify what they’d already done. No wonder it took such a long time to respond; it must have taken a huge effort to use such convoluted reasoning to attempt to cynically justify something the BBC had got wrong big style .He makes a determined and desperate attempt to use artifice to cover up the egregious intention to denigrate Corbyn, which remains visible through all of this no matter how much he tries to muddy the waters.
